Welcome to Healthier Organics! I'm Chaz, your hostess with the mostest content about organic gardening. (Or I will be, once I get settled in here.)
I've been gardening organically for over 30 years. It's not a huge garden,
as I live in a modest suburb of Detroit, but after 30 years, you learn
a few things. Like dealing with poor soil, too much shade, shallow
tree roots and insect depredation, to name just a few.
My husband was an avid model railroad fan. For years, he could not for the life of him imagine how I could possibly enjoy laboring
outside for hours at a time, getting all hot and sweaty and dirty,
instead of taking my ease in our air-conditioned house. Then one day,
he got it. "This is your model railroading, isn't it?"
He
passed away last year after a lengthy illness, bless his soul. Now I
live in the house we shared for over 20 years with our son, who attends
a local university and helps his Mom out in the garden. Our daughter,
who is a vegetarian, settled in the town of the state university she
attended. Last year she started a garden with a couple of friends and
was always asking me for advice. Moms love that!
The
other residents here are Zoe and Ash. Zoe is a middle-aged shih tzu
with a keen sense of entitlement. She doesn't much care for gardening,
I'm afraid, since it means she doesn't get to snooze on my lap. My
mutt Ash likes it just fine; he enjoys having company in the yard while
he chases the birds and squirrels away. Now if I could just get him to
hunt slugs...
My seeds just arrived. This week I'll be setting
up the grow lights and getting them started. Tomorrow the weather will
finally be nice enough to finish the yard work. I've already filled my
compost bin with last fall's leaves, but our town recycles yard waste
and gives the resulting humus away for free to residents.
So
browse around, stop in and say howdy if you've a mind to, or ask
questions or request articles on a specific topic, because I'm only
just getting started here and have barely scratched the surface.
Happy organic gardening!
Chaz
