My Continuing (Mis)Adventures, Part 2

Another update from the frontlines of the e-dating wars...

It's been just over three weeks now since I joined a dating website and posted my profile.  I have to say, my results so far are pretty discouraging.  The body count is up to 175 out of 226 by now, with more dropping like flies every day.  Mind you, these are the ones I've trashed because they're obviously trying to scam people, or their profiles remain incomplete after a couple of days, or I just find them unsuitable for whatever reason.  More of them email me two or three times, but when I won't budge off the site to communicate with them, they disappear.

I'm trying to be open-minded.  I carefully read the profile of anyone who contacts me.  I respond to everyone who seems remotely acceptable.  I'm at the 'getting to know you' stage with a couple of men, exchanging emails on a regular basis every day or two.  I have absolutely no confidence that either of them is for real, but haven't caught them in any outright lies yet.  But they have this disquieting habit of not answering questions that I ask.  With one man, there is the occasional odd verbal hiccup that leads me to suspect that he's getting me mixed up with someone else.  Not that he isn't perfectly within his rights to be communicating with as many other women as he pleases, but when I ask about it, as he has done to me more than once, I don't get an answer.

At this point, in the spirit of open-mindedness, I'm still giving them the benefit of the doubt and cautiously proceeding, all the while waiting for the other shoe to drop.  I'm nostalgic for the good old days when the worst thing I had to worry about was whether a boy liked me or not.
