How to Grow an Herbal Tea Garden

Herbal tea can serve mainly two purposes. They can be used to help with certain ailments, or they can just be quite tasty. Whatever your reason for drinking herbal tea, consider making the fresh herbs for your tea at home.

The first step is to prepare your garden. You can make your garden either indoors or outdoors, but the most important thing is to make sure the soil is somewhat dry or sandy in texture. The seedlings, after being planted according to the instructions, need minimal watering. Make sure they get the proper sunlight each day and your herbal garden will take off.

Once you understand the basics of your herbal garden, you can pick the flavor of herb. The most common herb to grow, and by far the easiest, is peppermint, as well as other plants in the mint family. Mint grows so prolifically that it will over take your garden if not properly controlled. The leaves are where the flavor is contained. Lavender has a beautiful smell and taste and can help your tension headache. The buds from this herb is where the flavor is. There are plenty of other herbs that give off a sweet fragrance as well as taste great. Some of these are chamomile with its apple scent, jasmine with its summertime fragrance, or violets with their violet smell.

Besides the common herbs mentioned before that have nice fragrances and sweet tastes, a couple of other herbs, such as bergamot or marjoram, are known for their citrus or orange flavor. Another herb that is gaining in popularity is stevia, a natural sweetener.
