Also keep in mind that you don't have to buy everything at once, or before you can get started exercising. You can add to your equipment as your body acclimates and needs different challenges. I've got a few pieces of standard equipment myself; a few weights, some Pilates bands, a yoga mat. Someone gave me a stair-stepper recently. Soon I'll have an open space dedicated to using these things in my crowded little house.
